One of the responsibilities assigned to Hancock County COAD and its partners is for volunteer and donation management. That task is centered around the operation of a Volunteer Reception Center where “unaffiliated” volunteers are checked in, interviewed and assigned to appropriate job sites. We talked through this process at our May meeting.
On Tuesday June 10 we will simulate a real-life scenario operating a Volunteer Reception Center at Brandywine Community Church, 1551 East New Rd, Greenfield. This functional exercise will begin at 7:00 PM.
The scenario is that a major storm has impacted a large portion of northwest Hancock County with serious damage to hundreds of homes and businesses. Volunteers are coming in from other areas of the State and surrounding states to assist. These volunteers are not associated with utility, fire, law enforcement or medical agencies. They represent churches, non profits and families that want to assist our neighbors. Getting them registered efficiently and out into the field quickly will greatly assist the professional first responders directing the response effort.
To accurately and realistically test our plan we need LOTS of folks to show up between 7:00 and 7:30 to play the role of incoming volunteers. If you have groups that you are part of please invite them to join us.
